There is nothing more Friulian than a nice glass of Schioppetino. When the wine in question is produced by Ronco dei Pini and the hand is that of Claudio Novello, then things get even more interesting. In fact, it start by being harvested by hand, quickly brought to the winery and vinified in steel at a controlled temperature. This is followed by the classic malolactic conversion that makes the wine slightly rounder and helps to smooth out its sharpest edges, and an ageing in French oak barriques that lasts for over a year and a half. Only at that point the wine is blended and, after a period of about 3 months of rest in tanks, it is sent to the bottling phase. The main grape variety of the Judrio Valley, the natural border between Italy and Slovenia, it has a reassuringly intense ruby red colour in the glass. The nose is assertive and aromatic, with notes of berries, currants and plums that meet cinnamon, pepper, liquorice and leather. In the mouth it is intense and full, fresh and velvety. An extremely harmonious wine, endowed with a long olfactory persistence.
