Marisa Cuomo, Via Giambattista Lama, 16/18 - 84010 San Michele (SA)
It is hard to imagine a more Campanian blend than this. Falanghina for 60% and Biancolella for the remainder. While Falanghina certainly needs no introduction, Biancolella is a very special grape variety found only in Campania, both on the mainland and on the islands. Endowed with good freshness, it is a grape variety that lends itself well to more than one processing. In this case, Marisa Cuomo cultivates it in her beautiful vineyards overlooking the sea, in Furore and the neighbouring municipalities. Cultivated in part with the classic Pergola system and atypical spokes, the grapes are harvested (by hand, of course) in the first ten days of October. Arrived at the winery intact, after destemming and crushing, the grapes undergo soft pressing. The must, clarified, is inoculated with selected yeasts to initiate fermentation. Before bottling, the wine rests only in stainless steel tanks. Pale straw yellow in colour, the nose reveals a delicate scent of fruit that recalls the unmistakable Mediterranean aromas of the area of origin. In the mouth, it is ample and balanced, with a slight dominance of the acidulous note to lend strength to the freshness of the aromas.
‘Between vines and rocks overlooking the sea of Furore, Cantine Marisa Cuomo’. One is greeted with this phrase when visiting the site of the most famous winery on the Amalfi coast. Here the grapes grow clinging to the rock of Furore and are exposed to the magical action of the sun and the sea. The winery, on the other hand, is dug into the rock and is an essential stop for those who want to learn about the history and winemaking tradition of this enchanted corner of Campania. Founded in 1980, the winery is run by Andrea Ferraioli and Marisa Cuomo. 10 hectares of land bravely subtracted from the rock and laboriously worked. Noble vines are cultivated here, which in turn give rise to wines of the highest quality, esteemed the world over. Andrea Ferraioli and Marisa Cuomo, together with oenologist Luigi Moio and the company's winemakers, have chosen to focus on quality in order to stand out in the panorama of Italian oenology with wines of unique and extraordinary flavour. Just as extraordinary is the territory of the Furore coast.
