    Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico
  • L'Amarone Classico is back, therefore the one that was born in the historic area. It has a modern style but with traditional characteristics: the nose is dominated by notes of black cherry, fruit in alcohol, while in the mouth the great sweetness of Amarone is diluted in the fleshy tannins. A wine for important moments!

Valpolicella comes from the Latin ''vallis polis cellae'', valley of the many cellars. We propose one that has particularly struck us, that of the Aldrighetti family, whose history begins in 1818 in the ''Bignele'' district. Luigi and Angelo run Le Bignele with their children Nicola and Silvia. Together they form a proven team: Luigi's kingdom is the winery, while Angelo takes care of the vineyards, 8 hectares on hilly terrain, cultivated with the typical varieties of the area (Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella). When he doesn't have to think about bottling and labelling, Nicola is Luigi and Angelo's right-hand man. Silvia takes care of the commercial and administrative side. During the grape harvest instead, everyone's task becomes that of selecting and picking (strictly by hand) the best bunches of grapes to produce the classic wines of Valpolicella: Valpolicella, Ripasso, Amarone and Recioto. Amarone is a dry raisin wine, and is so called because it was born... from a mistake! It seems, in fact, that this fine red wine from Veneto was born thanks to a barrel of Recioto della Valpolicella forgotten in the cellar. Carrying on, the fermentation continued to transform the sugars into alcohol, originating a full-bodied and rather alcoholic dry red wine, which was defined "bitter", to distinguish it from the sweet Recioto. In 1936, the cellar master of the Cantina Sociale Valpolicella, Adelino Lucchese, tasted it and pronounced the famous sentence: ''but this is not an Amaro, it is an Amarone''!
