A firm, fresh Comtes with a tight and composed palate. It’s full-bodied with a racy mid-palate. Long and persistent. Very structured with phenolics and acidity. Minerally. Floral, too. Refreshing and energetic. September 221 release. Drink or hold.
Cuvée de prestige of Maison Taittinger, the "Comtes de Champagne" is a wonderful example of how the Chardonnay grape, in the northernmost region of France, can express itself in wines of great personality. Comtes de Champagne, in fact, is a wonderful example of Blanc de Blancs, or white Champagne produced exclusively with white grapes. Produced only in the best vintages, as is typical for wines of this level, it perfectly represents its refined terroir of origin. The grapes used for its blend, in fact, come from the best vineyards in the Côte de Blancs region. Only the best grapes, of course, and only the flower of their juice. In fact, only the fruit of the first pressing, the most delicate and superficial, ends up in this bottle. The result, however, pays off from the very first sip. In the glass, in fact, this Champagne stands out for its elegance and finesse. Luminous straw yellow, the nose reveals a rich and fragrant bouquet of ripe fruit, candied citrus fruits and white flowers. Then notes of yeast and toast. In the mouth it is fresh and creamy, fruity and rich. A fine Champagne, this is a bottle reserved for special occasions. Perfect with seafood hors d'oeuvres, it also accompanies fish-based first courses with pleasure.
The Taittinger brand does not have a hundred-year history. But despite this, it is today considered one of the most famous and important Maisons in all of Champagne. It was founded in 1932 with the acquisition by Pierre Taittinger, a lover of gastronomy and bubbles, who became aware of the estate while serving in the French army as a first cavalry officer during the Great War. Today the Maison is run by the third generation of the Taittinger family, with Pierre-Emmanuel and his sons Clovis and Vitalie. The Maison is located near the city of Reims, on the ruins of the Saint-Nicaise de Reims Abbey. Among the special features of the Maison are undoubtedly the historic underground cellars, built from chalk quarries from the Gallo-Roman era. Here the wines have time to mature slowly in contact with their own yeasts. A total of 288 hectares of property, divided into 34 different crus where Chardonnay represents the most significant variety, entering into the blend of its most iconic label, the prized Comtes de Champagne. The experts' verdict is unanimous. With a line of labels that includes several limited editions, vintages and reserves, Maison Taittinger rightfully enters the elite of great Champagnes!
