VINEYARD
  • Terrain The Nebbiolo vineyards called Bricco are located on the top of the hills behind the company's headquarters, in the south and west exposures. The type of soil can be catalogued as lean, where the vines are obliged, advantageously, to deepen their roots in order to capture what they need. Here, as on other summits, over time the mother rock, rich in structural components of the marly type, has emerged. These soils, rich in carbonates and mineral components, give the wine powerful structures, rich tannins and long maturation times.

    Barolo DOCG Bussia Riserva 2017
  • A high quality Barolo, the result of a careful selection of grapes from the Bricco. The mention Riserva, on the other hand, in a territory with such a vocation as the Langa, is always a sign of great selection, longer ageing, quality and refinement. But let us proceed with order. The grapes, 100% Nebbiolo, as required by the strict disciplinary, come from the Arnulfo Estate, where the soils are particularly variable and where a correct southern exposure allows the grapes to reach perfect ripeness. The quality of the grapes and the super careful vinification, however, are only part of the recipe. The other ingredient needed to obtain a wine of this level is maturation in wood. In this case, it takes 36 months in large Slavonian oak barrels to reach the right degree of maturity. Only at that point is the wine bottled and then left to rest in the cellar for a further few months before being put on the market. A long, very long wait that is paid off when the bottle is opened and the first glass is poured. One discovers, in fact, an extremely complex and multifaceted wine. Spices, dried flowers, undergrowth and tobacco are only the first images that strike us. In the mouth, however, one discovers a wine of rare concentration, with fine, sweet tannins. Thanks to the long persistence, the pleasure of drinking seems to never end.

We are in one of the most fascinating corners of the Langa. We are on the famous Bussia hill, surrounded by vineyards that characterize a landscape declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is here, between Barolo and Monforte d'Alba, that the Coste di Bussia winery, Tenuta Arnulfo, has been located for over 150 years. The winery, founded in 1874 by Luigi Arnulfo, considered the Pioneer of Barolo for his innovative enterprises in the local wine world and in the international wine market, can today count on 11 hectares of vineyards. It produces the typical wines of the area, made strictly from grapes harvested in its own vineyards.
