    "Ciuchino" Monferrato Rosso DOC 2022
  • An everyday wine, for those who don't want to give up quality without spending a fortune. Ciuchino, the little donkey, of Cascina Valle Asinari is the typical Barbera of Monferrato. The result of traditional processing of grapes harvested at full maturity. During vinification, frequent daily racking occurs to extract all the colour, aromas and tannins from the skins. Then we proceed with a slow maturation phase in Slavonian oak barrels before bottling and the final resting phase in the bottle. The result is a wine characterized by an intense ruby red colour with violet reflections. The nose reveals a pleasantly fruity wine reminiscent of strawberries and small berries. In the mouth, finally, it plays on the edge of a balance between acidity and softness. It is the easy wine to pair that requires no special preparation. Excellent with meat, this is the bottle to open when the embers under the grill are crackling and the steak is sizzling happily.

And one of these is undoubtedly Cascina Valle Asinari, a young Piedmontese company born out of the purchase of the historic Bricco Asinari winery. We are in San Marzano Oliveto, in Asti, where Barbera and Nebbiolo are the two most cultivated varieties. The farm has a total of 20 hectares in organic conversion. All around, rolling hills covered with vineyards as far as the eye can see. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in cement tanks, long maturation and refinement in wood are the ingredients of a style that perfectly combines tradition and modernity. A nice project that should be followed carefully.
