"Bricco del Bosco" Vigne Vecchie Grignolino del Monferrato Casalese DOC 2019
  • Grignolino is a red grape variety indigenous to Piedmont. Its notoriety is partly overshadowed by the presence of the region's two holy monsters, Barbera and Nebbiolo, but, particularly in recent years, it has finally managed to come to the fore. Known for producing light and fresh wines, the name 'Grignolino' may derive from the Piedmontese word 'grignole,' meaning seeds, referring to the presence of numerous seeds inside the berries. Grignolino vines are typically cultivated in the hills of Piedmont, especially in the Monferrato area. The Monferrato casalese, or lower Monferrato, in particular, is a hill system between 120 and 350 metres above sea level that runs through the municipality of Vignale Monferrato. Here, Grignolino has found its ideal habitat and the Accornero winery uses it as the basis for this Bricco del Bosco. After the harvest, the grapes undergo a maceration phase in contact with the skins for 60 days in wooden vats. At the end of processing, the wine then matures for about 30 months in French oak tonneaux, before bottling and a further 24 months in the bottle. In the glass it has a beautiful intense ruby colour with garnet hues. The nose reveals great complexity, first revealing hints of dried flowers and berry jam, followed by balsamic hints of eucalyptus and spicy hints of pepper and cloves. In the mouth it is enveloping, fresh and with a pleasant tannicity. Good persistence, it is a wine of great class and strong personality.

A fine family history. The Accornero family, in fact, have been proud winegrowers for no less than five generations. And since 1897 they have continued to produce high quality wines with the same passion and commitment that drove their great-grandfather Bartolomeo in the beginning. Accornero is located in the heart of Monferrato, in an area defined as the land of Barbera and Grignolino. The winery is located in the municipality of Vignale Monferrato. Here is Ca' Cima, with a vineyard area of 25 hectares. The family's aim is to produce wines that are strongly linked to the territory. To do this, they manage the vineyards in a way that respects the land and the environment, and after the harvest (by hand) the best grapes are taken to a cellar that is equipped with all the latest technology. Innovation, therefore, but also a lot of tradition, since all the production processes remain the same as in the past.
