"San Pietro Realto" Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato DOCG 2023
    • Small oenological gems. How could one better define Ruchè? A rare Piedmontese grape variety that is cultivated exclusively in a small area in the province of Asti. Certainly less well known than the region's holy monsters such as Barbera, Dolcetto and Nebbiolo, Ruchè has a typical and very pleasant aromatic note that makes it very recognisable and special. A wine that, in local tradition, is reserved for festive occasions, celebrations and solemnities. A wine of great pleasantness, it is the red to serve throughout a meal, certain to surprise more than one expert friend. Intense red in colour with purplish highlights, on the nose this Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato San Pietro Realto proposed by Cantina Bersano immediately reveals a very intense bouquet, with floral hints reminiscent above all of roses, and delicate spicy notes. On the palate, however, it is harmonious and velvety, pleasantly savoury and dry. Excellent as an aperitif, on the table it satisfactorily accompanies hors d'oeuvres and cured meats. But also white meats and, for lovers of strong flavours, the very classic Bagna Cauda, with garlic and anchovies. A versatile red, Ruchè also lends itself well to being served slightly cooler in combination with a simple slice of freshly seared tuna.

More than a century has passed since the foundation of the Bersano company. The precise date is 1907, as proudly recalled on the home page of the company website. We are in Nizza Monferrato, the heart of the Barbera d'Asti district. The real turning point, however, came only a few years later, in 1935, when Arturo Bersano, a rare man in terms of intelligence and culture, a lawyer by family pride and a vine grower by passion, took control of the Cantina, which until then had been a family-run business and sold its wines only regionally. His work was inspired by the motto 'if you want to drink well, buy a vineyard'. A philosophy that, like a true pioneer, he would follow for the rest of his life. So over time, Bersano and, after him, the Massimelli and Soave families, owners of the Casa Vinicola, consolidated an impressive farmstead. Here, without forgetting the strength of tradition, quality grapes are still produced from which typical wines of the region are made. Particular attention has always been paid to the wood for ageing, the company's true asset. Cantine Bersano, in fact, keep large oak casks and tonneaux where, thanks to the constant temperature and humidity, the wines mature slowly for years. Today Bersano is considered one of the most important wineries in Piedmont.
