    "Materico" Nero d'Avola Sicilia DOC
  • Materico, the IGT red wine offered here by Cantine Pellegrino, is a pure Nero d 'Avola. An autochthonous vine, for the few who don't know it yet, that in these last years is becoming more and more appreciated in Sicily. For the quality of its wines, of course, which in some ways can remind you of the finest and most elegant Pinot Noirs. Harvesting of the bunches destined for Materico begins in the first ten days of October. The vineyards are those of Salaparuta, not too far from the Marsala winery. Red wine vinification at low temperature, fermentation and aging in steel. Very simple. All done with respect for the starting fruit and the fineness of its aromas. The result is a wine characterized by a soft red color, with notes of red fruits, such as cherry, and black fruits, from blackberry to morello cherry. on the palate, however, it is especially impressive for its delicate freshness. The previously perceived fruit hints return, with an added delicate spice of black pepper and cloves.

It is certainly not an exaggeration to say that Carlo Pellegrino of Marsala belongs to that small group of Sicilian companies that have made the history of viticulture on the island. And at Pellegrino people are so proud of this achievement that they want to pay homage to the fact that the winery boasts over 140 years of history. Its year of foundation, in fact, is 1880. What makes this long journey truly unique, however, is that the ownership has never changed since then. On the other hand, the company's products have or have evolved a great deal. If in the past, Pellegrino was only known for the production of Marsala, nowadays in addition to the traditional fortified wines it added a range of interesting white and red wines and even passito wines, produced with grapes coming from the winery's estate in Pantelleria. Tradition (long) and innovation (a lot) are today the ingredients of its success that translates into a really wide range of products, sold in Italy and worldwide and characterized by an excellent quality-price ratio.
