From vineyards situated between 250 and 350 metres above sea level, Cantina Terlano harvests its best Chardonnay, which is destined for this interesting bottle. In keeping with the tradition of this beautiful South Tyrolean winery, the harvest is carried out strictly by hand, with careful selection of the best grapes, which are brought to the winery within a few hours. Gentle pressing and racking precede a slow, temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks. At the end of this phase, the wine matures for about 6 to 7 months on its own fine lees, again in steel tanks. This delicate phase is crucial in enriching the wine with aromas and scents of great elegance. In the glass, in fact, one discovers a wine characterised by a beautiful pale straw yellow colour. On the nose, hints of exotic fruit, with typical notes of banana, quince, passion fruit, mango and melon. On the palate, however, one discovers a pleasantly smooth and harmonious Chardonnay, with a slight aroma of pear and exotic tropical fruit. Over all, however, it is also easy to discern a slight salty and mineral note that makes this wine soft and appealing.
Founded in 1893, the Cantina di Terlano is one of the most avant-garde wine cooperatives in the whole of Alto Adige. Its 143 current members cultivate 190 hectares of vineyards, producing a total annual output of around one and a half million bottles, divided into two lines, plus a few rarities of great oenological value. In the modern wine cellar, only DOC wines are produced, especially white wines, thanks to the new area created in 2009, where the wines have all the space they need to grow and develop to the full. From an architectural point of view, the Terlan Winery also deserves special mention. On the outside, part of the building has been covered with red porphyry, the typical rock of the area, while the roof of the winery has been greened and covered with vines, thus blending into the surrounding cultivated landscape. The wine archive of the cellar is unique in Italy with its 100,000 bottles from the 1955 vintage to the present day. However, the cellar also holds some ancient treasures: some bottles dating back to the year of its foundation!
