Mauritius is made from a classic blend of Lagrein and Merlot grapes. The name refers to the place where the grapes used to produce it come from. We are in fact on the outskirts of the city of Bolzano, in the locality of San Maurizio, Mauritus in Latin. Alto Adige DOC, it is a typical wine for the region. Fruit and structure, tannin and elegance. These are the main characteristics of this mountain cuvée, which is produced by fermentation in wooden barrels followed by about a year's refinement in French oak barriques and large barrels. A slow maturation that already influences its colour, which in this case is a beautiful intense garnet red. The first sensation on the nose is that of a lovely basket of slightly overripe and sweet red fruits. This is followed by a light spicy note of cocoa that recalls the toasting of the wood. Finally, the palate reveals a pleasantly intense and persistent wine. A wine to be served when the menu is full-bodied. With grilled meat, for example, but also with game and mature cheeses.
