A blend of 65% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon fleshed out with some Syrah and Petit Verdot, the Bolgheri Rosso Ruit Hora shows good harmony between its various moving parts. Presenting a unified front, the bouquet is redolent of dark cherry and blackberry preserves backed by spice, toast and burnt ember. The bold intensity of the wine's dark fruity side is well matched to the oak shadings. This is a great choice for a hearty ragù.
A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Petit Verdot, this has aromas of ripe dark fruit, sunbaked soil and a whiff of cedar. The medium-bodied, easygoing palate shows mature black plum and mocha alongside supple tannins. KERIN O’KEEFE
A saline element adds interest to the black currant and black cherry core of this elegant red, which is silky and adds earth, mint and pencil shaving accents for depth. Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now
Ruit Hora, meaning "The Fleeting Hour." From the “Odi barbare” by Giosué Carducci. An important name for an important wine. This Bolgheri red is made from a blend of 65% Merlot, with Cabernet Sauvignon at 25%, and small percentages of Petit Verdot and Syrah to back it up. Harvested by hand and staggered over several weeks, between the end of August and the last ten days of September for the late variety. After picking the grapes were carefully selected to eliminate even the smallest imperfection that could compromise the final result. Then pressing and fermentation in steel for about two weeks. Maturation in barriques, separate for each batch, continued for about 18 months. Only then was the wine blended and sent for a further period of refinement in the bottle. Bright ruby red in colour, the nose is intense, with notes of red fruits, such as cassis and blackberry. The mouthfeel is well balanced in all its components. Sensations of fresh fruit combine with a light spiciness, with a long and pleasantly complex finish.
With a nod to George Gershwin's famous "An American in Paris", this beautiful wine story could be entitled "A Brescian in Tuscany". The Brescian, is the famous winemaker Franco Ziliani, soul and signature of sparkling wine house Berlucchi Franciacorta. Tuscan, on the other hand, is his jewel. Tenuta Caccia al Piano, once a hunting fiefdom in Bolgheri of the noble della Gherardesca family, has been part of the Berlucchi group since 2003. Tenuta Caccia al Piano can count on 19.5 hectares, divided into three cru, Caccia al Piano, Le Grottine and San Biagio, with vines aged between 13 and 18 years. Here, as only normal, the great international varieties dominate, from Cabernet Sauvignon to Merlot, from Syrah to Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The perfect exposure of the rows and the unique characteristics of the natural environment, combined with the wise use of wood in the cellar and the hand of the winemaker, give life to wines of great personality. From Tuscany to the whole world.
