      "Ontaneta" Toscana IGT 2016
    • Ontaneta, Toscana IGT, comes from grapes harvested on Triacca's estate in Tuscany. In Santavenere, in the municipality of Montepulciano. It is a pure Merlot. The winery's homage to the "Ontaneta", wood of Alders. From here came a wood prized for its beauty and solidity. The 'Ontaneta' plot, however, also enjoys ideal conditions for growing vines, with good exposure and an optimal microclimate. The sandy-rocky soil is the ideal substrate for the Merlot grape variety. Four hectares of vines in total yield exceptional results. With the 2011 harvest, the best Merlot from this plot is aged in barriques, resulting in 'Ontaneta', the third product to complete the prestigious Triacca-TOP line. The colour is ruby red, dense and compact. The aromas are complex with hints of macerated flowers, raspberry, delicate touches of sweet spices, chocolate and vanilla. Elegant tannin, silky structure, great personality, excellent softness. Fruity and long finish with boisée notes. Excellent with savoury first courses, red meat, mushrooms and truffles, mature cheeses.

      A historic family business, Triacca is based in Campascio, Valposchiavo, Switzerland. The vineyards, and 'the' cellars, however, are located in Italy. In particular La Gatta in Valtellina, La Madonnina in Chianti Classico, Santavenere in Montepulciano. Winemakers since 1897, Triacca wines regularly score high marks in the most renowned wine guides. Today, the company is managed by brothers Giovanni and Luca, exponents of the fourth generation. Luca is oenologist and wine production manager. Giovanni runs the winery. With them is Uncle Rino, the 'old guard', who still welcomes visitors to La Gatta with his well-known friendliness and passion.
