CHARACTERISTICS
  • TypeVino rosso fermo
  • Location Sardinia
  • Grapes Cabernet Sauvignon 100%
  • Sensations One of the great Italian reds, reference among pure Cabernet Sauvignon and pride of the Sella & Mosca project. It comes from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes grown on strong soils of ferrous clay, combined by an ancient geological chaos with sands of aeolian nature. A terroir that influences and shapes the variety in a Mediterranean key, making the wine unique and seductive. After the harvest, the grapes ferment with long maceration on the skins, then the wine is placed to mature in barriques for about 18 months. After bottling, it rests in the cellar for a further 12 months. A decisive ruby colour with violet streaks, it is enveloped by ample aromas of great intensity, defined by notes of morello cherries and blackcurrants, tobacco and spices. The rhythmic and silky sip has specific weight and structure that the good acidity maintains in formidable balance. The finish is warm and seductive, with a very long persistence.

"Marchese di Villamarina" Cabernet Sauvignon Alghero DOC Riserva 2020
  • Let's start with a curiosity... Marchese di Villamarina is one of Italy's most awarded wines. It has won numerous international awards, including the 'World's Best Cabernet Sauvignon' award at the Decanter World Wine Awards. For this reason, it is certainly not excessive to define Marchese di Villamarina, Cabernet Riserva Alghero DOC by Sella&Mosca, a true Italian excellence that stands out for its complexity, elegance and power. In this case, the grapes used to produce this wine come from vineyards located in the Alghero area of Sardinia. The soil here is characterised by ferrous clays and aeolian sands and gives the wine a unique minerality and structure. The grapes are harvested by hand and fermented with long maceration on the skins. The wine then matures for about 18 months in new and second-passage French barriques. After bottling, it then rests in the cellar for a further 12 months. In the glass, it has a beautiful, decisive ruby red colour, with violet streaks. The nose reveals a broad and intense bouquet, with notes of morello cherry, blackcurrant, tobacco and spices. In the mouth it is rhythmic, silky, with great structure and good acidity that keeps it balanced. The finish is warm, seductive and very long lasting. It goes well with mature cheeses and first courses with meat sauces. Marchese di Villamarina best represents the terroir from which it comes.

If you think of the Sardinia of wine, you cannot under any circumstances overlook its most famous brand in the world. We are talking, of course, about Sella & Mosca. For more than a century, Sella & Mosca has been the very symbol of Sardinian quality wine-growing, and a reference brand for millions of wine-lovers who, after experiencing a dream holiday, rediscover a little of that magic thanks to its wines, once they have returned to their own cities. What few people know, however, is that the Sardinian winery actually has a Piedmontese origin. Engineer Sella and lawyer Mosca, in fact, claim Savoy origins and it is to them that we owe the merit of having initiated the reclamation and planting of the company's first vineyards. Today, Sella & Mosca can count on more than 540 hectares under vine, conducted with rigour and competence by a team of expert agronomists. The grapes are processed in a modern winery, equipped with all the latest technology, resulting in wines with great personality and a deep bond with the land. Since December 2015, Sella & Mosca has been part of the galaxy of companies belonging to the Terra Moretti group.
