  • Vinification The Nebbiolo, harvested by hand in crates, is vinified using the white wine method with soft pressing and immediate separation of the skins to prevent the passage of colour to the must. Fermentation is conducted in steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 18° C. At the end of fermentation the wine is racked and kept on the fine lees for a few months. The long lysis of the yeasts increases the aromatic complexity and at the same time softens the taste, giving juiciness to the flavour. Maturation takes place entirely in stainless steel, completely avoiding contact with oxygen: in this way, tertiary aromas are developed that make the wine more complex and capable of ageing for a long time

    Alpi Retiche Bianco IGT 2022
  • Alpi Retiche Bianco IGT di Nino Negri originates in one of the most evocative and most suitable territories for viticulture in Italy: the slopes of the Alps, in Valtellina. Here steep terraces supported by dry stone walls, from an altitude of 300 to 550 metres above sea level, allow the cultivation of high quality grapes. Nebbiolo, known here as Chiavennasca, normally used to produce structured, long-lived red wines, is vinified in white. An oenological challenge that Nino Negri has masterfully taken up, transforming an iconic grape variety into an unexpected and refined version. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected to ensure maximum quality. Immediately after harvesting, they undergo a soft pressing, with immediate separation of the skins from the must to prevent colour transfer. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks, maintaining freshness and aromatic purity. At the end of fermentation, the wine is racked and kept on the fine lees for a few months. This process increases the aromatic complexity and gives the wine a pleasant juiciness. Ageing takes place exclusively in stainless steel, avoiding contact with oxygen, to preserve the primary aromas and develop delicate tertiary aromas that add depth and refinement. Straw yellow with light golden hues, the nose reveals a delicate, clean-cut bouquet, with fragrances of green apple, lemon, toast, honey and white-fleshed fruit. On the palate it is dry and fresh, with a pleasant mineral and savoury note that enhances drinkability. The aftertaste is long and persistent, with a perfect balance between acidity and structure.

The winery was founded at the end of the 19th century but has been part of the prestigious Gruppo Italiano Vini since 1986. Like so many fine Italian companies, Nino Negri's commitment in recent years has been shifting towards environmental sustainability. A total of thirty hectares are under vine, mostly on steep terraces that rise from the valley floor to the steep walls of the Alps framing the Valtellina. Viticulture here is heroic and laborious. Every operation, every treatment must be done by hand, without the help of machinery. But the results often repay such hard work. The wines from Valtellina, of which Nino Negri is one of the most shining representatives, are among the best loved by experts all over the world.
