champagne juget-brunet à bisseuil, 2 Chem. de Laire d, 51150 Aÿ-Champagne, Francia
Grand Crus are defined as Champagnes whose grapes come only from communes that can boast of this recognition, according to a historical classification, defined by law since 1927. The communes of Champagne have in fact been divided into a 'scale of Crus', which identifies the best vineyards and the commercial value of their grapes. Maison Juget-Brunet, with vineyards in the Aÿ area, can boast of this recognition. 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, this Champagne is a "Non Vintage", i.e. without a vintage year on the label, a sign that its base Cuvée is composed of wines from different vintages. Blends that are specially created by the Maison's oenologist, a skilful blend of tradition and modernity, to safeguard the house style and obtain wines of consistent quality. A Champagne of fine character and strong personality, in the glass it has a lovely bright colour, due also to the presence of delicate, small bubbles that rise to the surface from the bottom of the glass, forming uninterrupted chains. The nose reveals notes of yeast, fresh fruit, peach, quince, and even berries, due in large part to the presence of Pinot Noir. In the mouth, it is generous and rewarding. Round and persistent, with a lingering finish reminiscent of the fruit perceived earlier. A Champagne with a pronounced gastronomic vocation, it is perfect with fish dishes, grilled and fried, but also raw and carpaccio, as well as with meat-based preparations. Excellent, for example, with roast chicken with potatoes.
A small, or rather very small, Champagne maison, Juget-Brunet is located in Aÿ, one of the region's most popular villages, classified Grand Cru, in the Vallée de la Marne. We are talking about a small family business that can count on approximately 4.5 hectares of vineyards, divided into several parcels, all located in the surroundings of Aÿ. Altogether, around 22,000 bottles are marketed each year, all the result of the same passion. The history of the Maison began in 1927, when Lucien Juget, after marrying Lucie Brunet, bought his first ares of vineyards in the surroundings of Aÿ. However, it was not until 1930 that his first cuvées were released on the market. Today, the company is managed by Michel Baudette, great-grandson of the founder. The house follows the dictates of sustainable viticulture in Champagne.
