Vigna Gianmatè presents some very interesting peculiarities. In terms of soil and climatic conditions, deriving from the south/south-east exposure, straddling the hilly ridge. It is here that the grapes destined for the production of this Barbaresco Basarin DOCG are grown, matured in small oak barrels and then left to refine in the bottle for several months. All this contributes to the creation of a Barbaresco characterised by a particular elegance. A pure Nebbiolo, in the glass it has a beautiful ruby red colour that slowly turns to garnet with the passing of the months. The nose is intense and at the same time delicate. It is reminiscent of violets, ripe and juicy red and dark fruit. In the mouth, however, it reveals itself from the first sip as a wine characterised by a flavour that is both dry and soft at the same time. A full-bodied red, it is delicately velvety. A wine suitable for long ageing, it goes well with roast meat and game.
Cantina Giacosa fratelli: over 100 years of history. A long family history, made up of values handed down from father to son. We are in Neive, in the province of Cuneo. This is where it all began, with four brothers, Leone, Giovanni Battista, Costantino and Giuseppe, who settled there at the end of the 19th century to work as sharecroppers. Of the four, however, only Giuseppe cultivated the dream of having a winery in which to produce the wine from the hills where he was born. And on a day in June 1895, this dream could finally be realised. He learned that a wine cellar in Borgonuovo di Neive was for sale at the price of three thousand lire. A sum that he could never have afforded. Legend has it, however, that that night he had a dream and the next day he played the numbers suggested to him at Lotto while he was sleeping. It seems impossible. But with the winnings, he bought the winery. From generation to generation, it is always the family that manages the winery, with two clear reference elements: naturalness and quality, in every phase of transformation, from the vineyard to the cellar. Today Cantina Giacosa fratelli can count on about 50 hectares, divided into different areas.
