      "Serpico" Irpinia Aglianico DOC 2016
    • Still haven't got one or more bottles of Serpico in your cellar? Then what are you waiting for. This Irpinia Aglianico DOC proposed by Feudi di San Gregorio is a "must have" for all lovers of good drinking. A red of great character and personality, Serpico is the result of a pure Aglianico vinification from the historic 'Dal Re' vineyard. A structured red, as mentioned, that matures for a minimum of 18 months in French oak barriques and medium toasted 50 hectolitre barrels before meeting the bottle. A long wait that goes on for at least another year, the time needed for Serpico to refine 'just right' in the bottle, in the shelter of the beautiful Irpinian cellar. Ruby red in colour, its bouquet is complex and clearly recalls cherry jam, sweet spices, liquorice, coffee and cocoa. Balanced in the mouth, thanks to the distinct minerality that balances the rich body. Great persistence, this Campania red is excellent with roast red meats, but also with 'noble' poultry and game, as well as mature cheeses.

There is a subtle fil-rouge that unites everything that has been done at Feudi di San Gregorio since its inception in 1986. It is the desire to make the most of the inestimable heritage of indigenous grape varieties from the Campania region. Starting with Greco, Fiano and Aglianico, true regional flagships. Today, the company can count on a total of 300 hectares of vineyards, divided into over 800 plots that differ in altitude, exposure and slope. A marvellous natural jigsaw puzzle that perfectly expresses the biodiversity of the land, and is capable of producing extraordinary crus. It is currently one of the leading wineries in Southern Italy, with exports covering more than 50 countries worldwide. The experience gained over the years therefore led the Capaldo family, who have always been the mind and soul of the company, to decide to explore the wine potential of other regions of Italy. Thus the 'Tenute Capaldo' project was born, encompassing a complex of wineries ranging from DUBL, also from Campania, to Campo alle Comete in Tuscany, passing through Basilisco, an organic winery in Vulture, Ognissole, a biodynamic winery in Apulia, Sirch, in the Colli Orientali del Friuli, and ending with FedeGraziani, a small jewel on the slopes of Etna. All realities united by the same values: to produce wines of excellent quality while respecting the territory they belong to.
