Franciacorta is an area that certainly needs no introduction. It is a small wine-growing oasis between Lake Iseo and the moraine hills. Its mild climate and mineral-rich soils make it ideal for growing grapes of the highest quality. It is no coincidence that the Franciacorta DOCG appellation is today synonymous with sparkling wine excellence. Alma Assemblage 1 Non Dosato comes from a careful selection of Chardonnay (76%) and Pinot Noir (24%) grapes, from 30 vineyards distributed among the best parcels of Franciacorta. The vineyards, with an average age of 27-28 years, yield clusters that express a profound aromatic maturity. Harvested strictly by hand, the bunches are collected in small 13 kg crates to preserve their integrity. The flower must, obtained by soft pressing, is the heart of the cuvée. A portion of the wine (31%) matures in wooden pièces to add structure and elegance. After bottling and prise de mousse, the wine matures for at least 30 months on the lees, developing complexity and depth. Finally, the ‘zero dosage’ enhances its purity, letting the natural characteristics of the grapes and terroir do the talking. In the glass, it has a brilliant yellow colour, enhanced by a fine and persistent perlage. On the nose, a citrus and floral bouquet, with touches of sweet spices, thyme and a fresh Mediterranean note. The palate is assertive, dynamic, with a vibrant freshness interwoven with a complex, crisp structure. The finish is long, elegant, perfectly balanced between maturity and vivacity. Good already, this Franciacorta DOCG, thanks to its structure and long ageing, also reveals excellent ageing potential. It can certainly evolve for at least 5-7 years, enriching itself with more complex tertiary notes. When it is uncorked, however, we will discover a great wine for the whole meal.
