"Vespa" Rosso Venezia Giulia IGT 2015
  • Venezia Giulia IGT, Bastianich's Vespa Rosso comes from a skilful blend of both indigenous and international grapes, carefully chosen by the winery team in vineyards that have an average age of around 60 years. In this case, the three Bordeaux grape varieties par excellence, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, are blended with Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, the most typical red grape of the area. The result is a fortunate mix that is enriched by an expert maturation in barriques for 18 months. Ruby red with slight garnet hues, the nose is very fruity, despite the fact that this is a red wine from a cold climate. In the mouth it confirms its nature, revealing pleasant notes of small red fruits, also jammy. Able to amaze for its balance and finesse, with the passing of the seconds it reveals itself as a pleasantly soft wine, with a slightly more bitter finish. Ideal with roasts and pork dishes. Try it, above all, with the classic baked shank with potatoes.

The Bastianich family, that of the legendary Joe, has a history deeply linked to wine and to Friuli in particular. In fact, since 1997 the Bastianich Estate has been able to count on no less than 40 hectares of vineyards, located in two distinct areas of the DOC Colli Orientali del Friuli. Part of them are on the Buttrio and Premariacco hills, in the hottest and southernmost area of the denomination. Here ripening is influenced by the warmth coming from the sea and the grapes are perfect for the production of the most full-bodied and structured wines. The other part of the estate is located in the hills of Cividale del Friuli and enjoys a completely different climate. Often affected by the Bora, the cold wind from the north, it produces wines with greater aromatic intensity. In the Bastianich wine range there are extremely territorial whites and reds, with some peaks of absolute excellence.
