Technically, Ariola's Barbian Rosso could be defined as a Bordeaux-style blend, the classic blend of French origin, made with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and aged in wood, usually in barriques. In this case, however, a portion of Lambrusco grapes, the symbol of Emilia, has also been added, making this still red wine a sort of 'Italian-style' Bordeaux blend or, more appropriately, 'all'Emiliana'. A fine experiment which, it must be said, is perfectly successful. It is no coincidence that this Barbian, whose name refers to the Barbiano hill on which the vineyards are located, is one of Ariola's most popular still wines. Thanks to the presence of Lambrusco, in the glass it has a beautiful, bright red colour, with very clear hints of ripe, dark red fruit, such as black cherry, small berries and plum. All this is well accompanied by pleasant sensations of sweet spices. In the mouth it has an excellent structure, with fine, enveloping tannins. A red to put on the table when the menu is all meat.
About 70 hectares on the first hills overlooking the Po Valley. Vineyards positioned between 220 metres and 300 metres above sea level. Optimal slopes to guarantee good drainage for the vines and orientation of the rows to ensure constant sun exposure for the ripening grapes. All this is Ariola, a winery founded in 2003 and already able to place its wines at the top of world rankings. Merit, no doubt from the vineyards, but also from the skill of Marcello, its founder, who has been able to give his company a precise direction. Thus the processing still follows the strict seasonal rhythms, like the phases of rest and maturation of the wines. Over everything, however, reigns a profound respect for the land and for nature. And so, from the estate vineyards, traditional white and red wines come to life, easily recognisable for their quality and stylistic consistency. Above all Lambrusco and Malvasia, of course, and a sea of fresh bubbles. But also still and classic reds, to which are added distillates, craft beers and precious elixirs.
