Thanks to the Argiolas family we have the opportunity to get to know some of Sardinia's rare ancient grape varieties. Thanks to unique wines such as this Nasco di Cagliari DOC, 100% Nasco grape, or Nascu, as it is called inland from Cagliari. Cultivated in Sardinia since time immemorial, Nasco is a vine of great value and rare finesse. Its name may derive from the Latin "Muscus", meaning musk, to underline its unmistakable perfume, especially after several years of refinement. Argiolas produces it following a traditional method. Vinification begins with a cold maceration phase and limited contact with oxygen. This is followed by a phase of refinement on the noble lees for about 60 days while a small fraction of the must ferments and matures on small French oak barrels. Straw yellow colour. The nose reveals an ample and harmonious bouquet, with notes of yellow flowers, tropical fruit and, indeed, slight musky notes. On the palate, however, Iselis reveals itself to be a soft and enveloping wine, characterised by a particularly long and pleasant finish. A rare and precious wine, it goes well with fish starters. For lovers of Sardinian cuisine, try it with the classic culurgiones di patate alla menta or, for a more traditional combination, with a simple risotto alla marinara.
Serdiana, in the countryside of Sibiola, Sisini, Sa Tanca, Vigne Vecchie and Is Solinas. These are the five estates, covering a total of over 200 hectares, that the Argiolas family owns in southern Sardinia. These estates have been carefully chosen for their soil, exposure, climate and altitude. Each estate is different, as are the grapes that grow there and the wines that are created. The history of the Argiolas winery began in the late 1930s, when Antonio set up his new agricultural enterprise. Thanks to his commitment, for decades, the winery grew and established itself in Sardinia and beyond. This has also been the case with the arrival of his children and, today, his grandchildren. The third generation of the family. Preserving and keeping intact the wonderful Sardinian nature is an important responsibility. A daily commitment that guides the actions of the Argiolas family, every day, in every decision.
