Montesicci is a Nasco di Cagliari DOC. It is offered here by the Cantina sociale di Dolianova, one of the island's most vital and interesting realities. 100% Nasco grapes, an ancient Sardinian white grape variety. An indigenous grape variety unknown to most, it produces distinctive and unique wines. The members of Dolianova have always cultivated it in the area surrounding the winery, where the soils are of medium texture, ideal for the proper ripening of these grapes, also thanks to a climate that can be defined as 'sub-arid' here. After cold maceration on the skins overnight, the must is left to rest for 12 hours at a low temperature in order to gently clarify it. This is followed by the inoculation of selected yeasts and the fermentation phase, which lasts for about 14 days. After fermentation, a period of refinement in contact with the noble lees begins and, after a few months, simply bottling follows. Already good today, this white wine, thanks to its considerable structure, can easily mature for a long time in the cellar. When we uncork it, we will discover a wine characterised by a beautiful straw yellow colour, with elegant and complex aromas. Notes of sweet spices, dried flowers and pleasant hints of toasted fruit. In the mouth it is full and persistent, with a pleasant savouriness and a delicately almondy finish. Ideal as an accompaniment to important seafood dishes, or with medium-aged cheeses. A few years after the harvest, it becomes an ideal meditation companion.
Founded in 1949 by thirty-five winegrowers, Cantine di Dolianova has grown and prospered over time, reaching goals that certainly at the time were not even remotely imaginable. Today there are more than three hundred members and, very importantly, many of them are now the children or grandchildren of the founding members. In a sort of generational passage, much appreciated in the wine world. Today, the Cellars can therefore count on a heritage of around 1200 hectares of their own vineyards, mostly concentrated in Parteolla, in the south of Sardinia, one of the sunniest parts of the island. Thanks to this heritage, the company's sales force is able to sell more than four million bottles a year. Numbers that, in a viticultural panorama such as that of Sardinia, make Dolianova one of the largest and most virtuous realities in the sector. The winery's production is focused (as it should be) on the island's many indigenous grape varieties. From Cannonau to Monica, Nuragus, Vermentino, Nasco, Barbera Sarda and Moscato.
