"Colle Vecchio" Pecorino Offida DOCG 2023
  • Offida DOCG Pecorino Colle Vecchio by Tenuta Cocci Grifoni. A wine that is the result of the adventure and passion of Guido Cocci Grifoni. To him, in fact, must be given the merit of having rediscovered and been able to valorise an almost forgotten native grape variety, Pecorino, bringing it back to light with dedication and respect for its nature. Vineyards located at an altitude ranging from 180 to 250 metres above sea level, the fortunate mix of exposure, climate and soil create an ideal habitat for growing quality grapes. An environment in which Pecorino, an ancient and fascinating variety, is able to express itself at its best. Known for its ability to produce wines with marked acidity and great aromatic intensity, this vine is harvested by hand in the first ten days of September. Vinification then takes place at a controlled temperature to keep all the fresh, fruity aromas of Pecorino intact. At the end of the transformation, the wine matures in stainless steel for at least 6 months before being bottled and a further 3 months of bottle ageing. Colle Vecchio offers a rich and complex aromatic bouquet. On the nose, fruity notes of ripe pear initially emerge, followed by delicate floral sensations of lily of the valley and broom and tropical notes of mango. In the mouth, it is dry, with an impactful acidity that enhances its freshness. Accents of lemon grass and sage add further nuances to the sip, making it full and smooth. Ideal with fish starters, seafood and salads, but also with more complex dishes such as risotto, grilled fish and white meat.

We are located in the rolling hills of the Marche region, where the Adriatic Sea meets the Sibillini Mountains. This is where Tenuta Cocci Grifoni, a winery founded in the 1930s by Guido Cocci Grifoni, is located. A far-sighted pioneer, Guido laid the first vineyards in what we now know to be an area with a vocation for viticulture, laying the foundations of a reality that still belongs to his family almost a century later. Today, the vineyards extend over about 60 hectares of the company's total 100 hectares, surrounded by centuries-old woods and olive groves. This unspoilt landscape, characterised by a Mediterranean climate with mountain influences, gives the grapes unique characteristics that translate into wines of great value. Between the rows, both native and international varieties are grown. In particular, Pecorino, Montepulciano and Passerina, which best express the character of the territory. Then Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon that, despite their French origin, adapt perfectly here in the Marche region to produce very interesting wines. From the very beginning, Tenuta Cocci Grifoni has made sustainability one of its founding values. Today, the company is SQNPI certified (Sistema Qualità Nazionale Produzione Integrata - National Quality System for Integrated Production) and adheres to environmentally friendly farming practices, such as integrated pest management and the use of only organic fertilisers. In addition, 30 per cent of the farm's surface area is woodland, to better protect biodiversity.
