ELABORADO Y EMBOTELLADO PORT: BODEGAS SONSIERRA. SAN VICENTE DE LA SONSIERRA, ESPANA.
Rioja is one of Spain's most famous wine regions, located in the north of the country. The region produces mainly red wines based on the Tempranillo grape, which is the typical variety of the area. Rioja is divided into three sub-regions: Rioja Alta, Rioja Baja and Rioja Alavesa, each of which has a different climate and terroir. From this interesting wine area comes this Reserva, made from pure Tempranillo grapes by Bodega Sonsierra. The grapes come from old vineyards on the slopes of the Sierra de Cantabria, harvested by hand and vinified using traditional methods. In the glass, the wine has a beautiful garnet red colour with ruby highlights. On the nose, aromas of ripe black fruit and liquorice, perfectly balanced with the toasted, spicy and balsamic notes that derive from its stay in the barrel and give it great complexity. In the mouth, on the other hand, the tannins are delicate and make it round and velvety, with some toasted nuances in the finish that give it a pleasant memory. Perfect for enhancing game dishes, but also roasts, stews and very mature cheeses.
Botega Sonsierra was inaugurated on 15 May 1962 and today represents the second largest bottling cooperative in Rioja. An example of coordination and collaboration between 136 winegrowers cultivating 492 hectares of vineyards. Spread over an undulating landscape, they are divided into small plots and terraces that range from an altitude of 420 metres above sea level near the Ebro river to over 700 metres at the foot of the Sierra de Cantabria mountain range. Different altitudes guarantee different microclimates and favour the perfect ripening of the grapes, even in years with extreme weather conditions. In the vineyards only indigenous varieties, in particular Tempranillo and Viura, with vines ranging in age from around 20 years to around 130 years. An authentic treasure.
