Lodi is one of the regions of Calfornia best known for producing quality grapes. We are in the northern part of the state, in an area quite far from the sea and as such characterized by a decidedly warm climate. Here Sebastiani Vineyards & Winery harvests the Chardonnay grapes used to make this interesting wine. The harvest is always scheduled early in the morning to preserve the freshly picked grapes from excessive heat. After pressing, half of the must is fermented in oak barrels and also undergoes malolactic fermentation to further increase its complexity. The result is a wine characterized by a beautiful intense, golden-yellow appearance. On the nose, the Chardonnay still shows nice freshness, with notes of apple, lemon and yellow peach. In the mouth, it is decidedly full and rewarding, characterized by notes of baked fruit, crème brûlée and a delicate hint of wood that is clearly perceived on the finish.
