If the evening is in South Tyrolean style, a bottle of this extraordinary traditional red wine should not be missing from the table. Alto Adige St. Magdalener, it is classic in both name and in fact. In fact, it is made from Schiava grapes that grow on slopes that can reach 80% gradient, with excellent southern exposure, in St. Maddalena. Sustainable viticulture inspired by the principles of organic farming, the grapes are hand-picked and carefully selected in the vineyard. Vinification is super traditional, with maturation in stainless steel, to preserve all the goodness of the original fruit. In the glass it is a beautiful pale ruby red colour. The nose is elegant and inviting, with notes of violets, cherries and raspberries. In the mouth it reveals a medium body, fragrant and with a typical finish reminiscent of bitter almonds.
We are in that remote corner of Italy where, instead of simple Italian, people prefer to speak German. And where the wines have the same style. Here you will find Weingut Pitsch am Bach. We are located between S. Giustina and S. Maddalena in Bolzano, where the vines take root in an interesting soil, composed of river gravel with a high sand and medium humus content. The company has ancient origins, so much so that it was mentioned for the first time back in 1350. Located at an altitude of about 300 metres above sea level, it enjoys an enviable record of about 300 days of sunshine per year. An excellent prerequisite for producing excellent wines. Today, the Pitsch Winery is run as a "heritage farm" by the Schweigkofler family, the eighth generation to engage in winegrowing. Only autochthonous grape varieties are cultivated, from Lagrein to Vernatsch, from Gewurztraminer to Sudtiroler Goldmuskateller. The vineyard is managed in a natural way and the grapes are processed according to traditional winemaking techniques.
