Kalterersee Classico Superiore “per sé” Alto Adige DOC 2023
    • Kalterersee, i.e. Lake Kaltern, Classico, i.e. from the historic region of the appellation, and Superiore, i.e. a quality wine with a slightly higher alcohol content than the 'base'. All this is 'per se', Alto Adige DOC, offered here by Elena Walch. The base is one of South Tyrol's typical grape varieties, the schiava. With its conviviality, youthfulness and friendliness, it fully reflects its land. This vine, a pillar of mountain viticulture, is an integral part of the winery's history and a fundamental part of their identity. The wine has a fresh, ruby red colour. Its bouquet is elegant and fruity. It is reminiscent of black cherry, violet, white pepper and a hint of bitter chocolate. In the mouth, however, it is characterised by its delicate tannins and a fresh structure. This makes the wine easy to drink and pair. Particularly if the classic dishes of South Tyrolean cuisine, such as dumplings, barley soup, or speck, are on the table, but it is also very well suited, thanks to its pliability, to lightly flavoured starters and first courses or to white meats.

Elena Walch is a name that needs no introduction among Italian wine lovers (and probably most of the world). Elena Walch is simply synonymous with quality wine from South Tyrol. A family-run business, Elena Walch has always been a promoter of quality and innovation. An architect by profession, Elena married the heir to one of the oldest wine families in the region and was able to introduce important modernisation concepts into the family business, which is now run by her daughters Julia and Karoline. The principle is that the wines should be a unique expression of their soil, climate and work in the vineyard. And that the vineyard should be worked according to the principles of sustainability in order to be left as a legacy for future generations. With around 60 hectares in production, including the two vineyards VIGNA Castel Ringberg in Kaltern and VIGNA Kastelaz in Tramin, Elena Walch's estate is certainly one of the most interesting wineries in South Tyrol.
