CHARACTERISTICS
  • TypeVino rosso fermo
  • Location Piedmont
  • Grapes Nebbiolo 70% - Barbera 30%
  • Sensations Intense ruby red in colour, on the nose the notes of violets and dog roses are in synchrony with the nuances of red fruit and the vanilla nuances offered by the ageing in wood; the palate is ample, the tannin is silky and the finish is soft and enveloping
  • Vinification The uniqueness of this wine lies in the vinification of nebbiolo and barbera together; the harvest date was set so as to have a perfect balance between the elegance and power of nebbiolo, and the fruitiness and roundness of barbera. The hand-picked nebbiolo and barbera grapes are destemmed and gently crushed. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, and the fermentation temperature never exceeds 28°C. The extraction of the noble parts of the skin (tannins, colour, aromas) takes place through maceration with the cap emerged, which lasts at least 10 days with repeated pumping over. After this time, the wine undergoes several rackings to clarify it and prepare it for ageing in wood.

    "Pi Cìt" Alba DOC 2021
  • It is called Pi Cìt and it is a Alba DOC, proposed here by Cantina dei Marchesi di Barolo, an authoritative signature for a wine that is able to surprise. Starting with the beautiful, hand-drawn label, quite different from those that characterise almost all the Langa winery's references. The particularity of this wine lies in the vinification of Nebbiolo and Barbera together. The harvest date was set so as to have a perfect balance between the elegance and power of Nebbiolo, with the fruitiness and roundness of Barbera. The grapes, 70% Nebbiolo and 70% Barbera, are harvested by hand, destemmed and gently crushed. Fermentation then takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Pi Cìt then matures for at least 9 months, partly in barriques and partly in 30 hectolitre Slavonian oak barrels. After maturation in wood, the wine is blended and continues its evolution in the bottle for at least 6 months before release. The colour is an intense ruby red. On the nose, the notes of violets and dog roses are in perfect harmony with those of red fruits and the vanilla nuances brought by the ageing in wood. In the mouth it is ample, the tannin is silky and the finish soft and enveloping. It goes well with tasty hors d'oeuvres, first courses with rich sauces, roasted or stewed meats. It is an ideal companion for boards of cured meats and mature cheeses.

he Barolo, understood as the extraordinary wine that the whole world envies us, was born just a few metres from the company headquarters. The historic cellars of the Marchesi di Barolo, in fact, are located right in the centre of Barolo, just a few steps away from the castle that was the home of the last Marchesi Falletti, the first ever to produce the noble red, the wine of kings. The Abbona family, the current owners of Marchesi di Barolo, ideally continue the work begun by the Fallettis, acting as faithful interpreters of the traditional vines and their places. Never as in this case does the saying 'combining tradition and innovation' apply. The company works with the main vines of the Langhe, Roero and Monferrato, vinifying the most prestigious crus in purity, refining them and proposing them individually, to better exalt their different expressions. Knowledge of and respect for the different grape varieties and individual terroirs, combined with vinification that enhances their strengths. All this is Marchesi di Barolo.
