Prodotto da Maculan Srl - Breganze (VI) - Italia
A true one-of-a-kind. Proposed here by one of the most representative companies in the Breganze area. We are talking about Maculan's Vespaiolo, Breganze DOC. It comes from volcanic and tuffaceous hills, nestled between the Venetian Pre-Alps. It is no coincidence that the secret of this wine's decisive character lies in the particular volcanic terroir of the Breganze hills. These, in fact, are the result of eruptions that occurred millions of years ago. The soils, composed of basalt and tufa, are rich in minerals and well drained, giving the Vespaiola grapes an intense minerality and marked freshness. An indigenous white grape variety, Vespaiola is distinguished by its rusticity and its ability to adapt well to volcanic soils. The bunches, consisting of small, compact grapes, ripen late, yielding grapes rich in sugars and aromas. The grapes are harvested manually and undergo a short cold maceration to extract the aromatic precursors. Soft pressing and ageing in steel vats preserve the wine's freshness and fragrance. Pale straw yellow, enhanced by greenish reflections, it conquers the nose with a clean and intense bouquet, characterised by floral notes and hints of white-fleshed fruit. In the mouth it is dry and full, with a lively freshness balanced by a good structure. The typical minerality of the volcanic soil emerges with elegance, giving it a long and pleasant aromatic persistence.
For three generations now, the Maculan family has been selecting and vinifying the best grapes from Breganze, a charming village at the foot of the Asiago Plateau. The mild climate there favours the cultivation of vines and olive trees. For the uninitiated, the hills of Breganze offer ideal soil for grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay, but also Tai and Vespaiola. Today, the company has around 40 hectares of land, with vines and olive trees. Maculan, however, also controls around 30 selected wine growers who bring their grapes to his cellar. The company's head quarter is located in the historic centre of Breganze, a successful marriage of ancient tradition and modern winemaking techniques. It is from here, vintage after vintage, that the great wines come, appreciated all over the world.
