Lovers of native Sicilian grape varieties, step forward. What Gulfi offers here, in fact, is a fabulous Carricante in purity. Carricante, for those who still don't know, is the most widespread white grape variety in the province of Catania, indigenous to Etna. Here it grows well up to fairly high altitudes, in some cases reaching almost 950 metres above sea level. The nature of the soil, which is volcanic, and its relative proximity to the sea, allows Carricante to enrich itself with mineral substances, giving rise to wines characterised by a marked freshness that is sometimes managed in the cellar with special production techniques. As in this case, where the wine is left to mature on the lees for at least a year, in oak and steel barrels. After bottling, the wine then continues for its period of refinement lasting several months in the cellar before it is finally put on the market. Carjcanti di cantina Gulfi presents itself in the glass of a beautiful straw yellow colour with bright green highlights. The nose reveals an intense, ample and characteristic aroma, with hints of green apple. In the mouth, however, it is dry, savoury, persistent, with that pleasant acidity so characteristic for the variety. It goes well with fish dishes.
