La Chiusa, Langhe DOC Nebbiolo proposed here by Chionetti, comes from a pure processing of Nebbiolo grapes that come for the most part from the area of San Luigi, in the municipality of Dogliani. The rest, however, comes from the company's vineyards in Monforte d'Alba. The grapes are harvested by hand between October and November, just before the arrival of winter. Vinification is traditional and is followed by a period of refinement in the cellar before bottling. In this case, the producer's choice is a large barrel of untoasted French oak, which yields little in terms of aromas and fragrances but still allows the wine to evolve and acquire pleasantness and a nice drinkability. Unfiltered, it is a fine traditional red, characterised by a ruby colour with a slight opalescence. On the nose it has fruity, floral and herbaceous scents, while in the mouth it reveals a nice elegance and the right freshness. Perfect with beef, chicken and pork dishes, this Langhe DOC also accompanies simple sliced meats and medium-aged cheeses.
The Chionetti family's link with the vine dates back to the 19th century. Although the real turning point came only in 1912, when Giuseppe Chionetti bought the farmstead in San Luigi, a particularly suitable area in the commune of Dogliani. From this moment on, the family linked its name above all to that of the Dolcetto grape, which it sold to the biggest merchants in the area. The marketing of bottles under their own name, however, was developed with the arrival in the company of Quinto, grandson of the founder Giuseppe, while it is Andrea, Quinto's son, who contributes to the growth of the family vineyards and the beginning of exports to the USA. Since 2013, Nicola, Quinto's grandson, has been carrying on the family tradition. Today the winery can contract, as well as on the three historical cru of Dogliani, also on 3 vineyards in the Barolo area purchased in 2015. All the vineyards have organic certification.
