    Forastera Ischia DOC 2023
  • A rare wine, introduced to the island of Ischia in the 19th century. The name Forastera brings to mind the idea of something ‘from outside’, even if today, almost 200 years later, its pure production is small but well established. Cantina Cenatiempo cultivates it in a vineyard located about 200 metres above sea level, precisely in Lacco Ameno, an area of great historical and natural value. The soil of these terraced hills, facing west, is particularly arid and rocky. The mild climate is influenced by the sea breeze that caresses the grapes. Here, thanks to this fortunate mix of unique conditions, the Forastera grapes are able to best express their natural freshness and minerality, resulting in wines of great elegance. Harvesting takes place between late September and early October, when the grapes are perfectly ripe. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, and the wine is matured in the bottle for about 30 days after bottling. In the mouth, it impresses with a lively freshness that makes it extremely pleasant and versatile. The minerality typical of grapes from volcanic soils and the balance between freshness and body give the wine a long persistence and a clean finish. Ideal in combination with fish and seafood dishes.

The Cenatiempo winery, Vini d'Ischia, was founded in the first half of the last century and has always been a point of reference for the production of wines capable of expressing the authenticity and richness of the territory of the small Campania island. Located in an area characterised by volcanic soils, the winery benefits from a unique microclimate, where the soil, enriched by the presence of minerals and proximity to the sea, gives the grapes a distinctive aromatic profile. The winery, which dates back as far as the 17th century, is carved into the hillside. Although the winery has grown and modernised over the years, it has always maintained a family-run approach. The vineyards extend on terraces at various altitudes, from the coast to 600 metres above sea level. Viticulture here requires intense manual labour, thanks to which it has been possible to preserve unique native varieties such as Biancolella and Piedirosso, locally known as Per' ’e Palummo. Ancient vines that have adapted perfectly to the island's climate and give rise to wines with an unmistakable character.
