Made in South Africa
At the 1991 International Wine and Spirits Competition in London, an unusual South African wine made from a little-known grape variety was awarded the title of "Best Red Wine." It was the first official recognition for the first of the region's native grape varieties, Pinotage, which came about through the experiments of one Abraham Izak Perold, the first professor of viticulture at the University of Stellenbosch, who decided to use Pinot Noir and Cinsaut to crossbreed and create a new variety suited to South Africa's climate. The basic idea was to help Pinot Noir, which, despite its undoubted quality and reasonable versatility, was struggling to yield interesting results in South Africa. Cape Dream offers it here in a particularly pleasant version, aged for about 9 months in large French oak barrels. The result is a wine characterized by a beautiful deep red color. The nose is intense and fruity, with fresh and sincere notes of red fruits and spices that blend perfectly with a pleasant woody memory. A wine that is already good today but can safely sit in the cellar some time waiting for the right opportunity. In fact, over time, it will certainly acquire more complexity.
South Africa is known as the "Rainbow Nation." This is because within it are represented different cultures that, with hard work, have struggled over the years to achieve a delicate democracy. Cape Dreams is one of the most interesting wineries in the country, synonymous, even internationally, with wines of excellent quality. The farm is located in the famous Roberston Valley, about 140 km from Cape Town, also known as the valley of wine and roses. Cold winters and sunny summers, with days that can also be quite hot. Fortunately, however, a constant current, typical of the region, has a cooling effect on the vineyards, at the same time representing a natural anti-parasite. Founded in 1964, Cape Dreams has about 600 hectares planted with vines and a winery equipped with the latest technology.
