This wine shows a beautiful appearance in the glass thanks to its inky dark color saturation. The 2016 Bolgheri Rosso Stupore is a blend of 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Syrah and 5% Petit Verdot. The wine pours forth with dark primary fruit that shows the quality of this trouble-free vintage. There is a sweet note of spicy cinnamon followed by blackberry and plum. The finish is simple, soft and succulent. I would suggest drinking this wine over the next five years.
This is a full, ripe, Bolgheri red with a ton of blackberries and some nice tannins on the mid-palate, but the finish is already quite soft. Drink now.
This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot opens with aromas of Mediterranean brush, black-skinned berry and tobacco. The concentrated palate offers blackberry jam, licorice and mocha alongside fine-grained tannins. Drink 2022–2030. KERIN O’KEEFE
Intense and pure, with a beam of black cherry, wild herbs and spice piercing a dark abyss of finely wrought tannins. Terrific acidity keeps this fresh and focused, while the finish evokes chocolate, ripe fruit, spice and mineral notes. Merlot, Syrah, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2020 through 2032. 6,500 cases made, 650 cases imported. — BS
This Bolgheri Rosso DOC proposed by Campo alle Comete, a Bolgheri company that belongs to the Feudi di San Gregorio group, is named Stupore. A beautiful estate where wines are born that perfectly represent their territory of origin. Stupore, in particular, is the product of a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, with an addition of Syrah. A decidedly international wine, in the style of those produced in this wonderful corner of the Tuscan coast. In the cellar we proceed with a separate vinification of the different varieties, which are then matured in new and used, medium toasted French oak barriques or tonneaux for about 12 months. Then, after bottling, the wine undergoes a further refinement of at least 6 months in the bottle. Only then is it ready to meet our chalices. Intense and deep ruby red, on the nose fruity notes of fresh plum and hints of cherry emerge, well integrated with the sweeter and roasted sensations of cocoa. Balsamic aromas of eucalyptus, reminiscent of the Mediterranean scrub, then emerge. In the mouth it is soft and balanced, with enveloping fruity notes. The finish is long and intense, sapid and fresh.
There is a subtle fil-rouge that unites everything that has been done at Feudi di San Gregorio since its inception in 1986. It is the desire to make the most of the priceless heritage of indigenous grape varieties of Campania tradition. Starting with Greco, Fiano and Aglianico, the true regional flag bearers. Today the company can count on a total of 300 hectares of vineyards, divided into over 800 plots that differ in altitude, exposure and slopes. A marvellous natural puzzle that perfectly expresses the biodiversity of the territory and is able to give life to extraordinary cru. It is currently one of the leading wineries in Southern Italy, with exports covering more than 50 countries worldwide. The experience gained over the years has therefore led the Capaldo family, who have always been the mind and soul of the company, to decide to explore the winemaking potential of other regions of Italy. This is how the "Tenute Capaldo" project was born, which includes a complex of wineries ranging from DUBL, also from Campania, to Campo alle Comete in Tuscany, passing through Basilisco, an organic winery in Vulture, Ognissole, a biodynamic winery in Puglia, Sirch, in the Colli Orientali del Friuli, and finally FedeGraziani, a small jewel on the slopes of Etna. They all share the same values: to produce wines of excellent quality while respecting their territory.
