Let us start immediately with a curiosity. The grape variety used here, Zinfandel, is a very close relative of another grape, 100% Italian. We are talking about Primitivo. Zinfandel and Primitivo, in fact, despite being two different varieties, have a common origin. Both derive from a grape variety called 'Crljenak Kaštelanski', originating in the Dalmatian region of Croatia. During the 19th century, this vine was imported to the United States and Italy. In the United States, it took the name Zinfandel and became a very popular variety in California. In Italy, on the other hand, it spread mainly in the region of Apulia under the name Primitivo. In common, the two grape varieties have a fondness for warm climates and a rather early ripening, hence the name 'Primitivo'. Western Cellars offers it here in a very 'traditional' version, deep red with purple hues, intense aromas of well-ripened red and dark fruit. In the mouth, however, one discovers a complex, intense and enveloping wine. An ideal red to accompany tasty meat dishes. Excellent with both beef and pork, especially in summer it is the ideal snack companion when meat is grilled.
