The grapes used to make Fontanino, Tenuta Il Cascinone's Riesling, come from vineyards in the hills of Alto Monferrato, an area characterised by clayey soils tending to limestone and a temperate climate with Mediterranean influences. The east and south-east exposures, between 200 and 400 metres above sea level, guarantee the grapes a perfect balance between sugar and acidity, giving the wine a unique and inimitable profile. Riesling, a white grape variety originating in Germany, has found a second home in Italy, especially in some particularly suitable areas, where it is able to give elegant and long-lived wines. Harvesting is done manually, in crates, to best preserve the integrity of the bunches. The grapes are then subjected to a soft pressing and fermentation in steel at a controlled temperature. A bottle ageing period of at least 6 months follows. In the glass Fontanino has a beautiful pale straw yellow colour, luminous and crystalline. The nose reveals a range of fine and delicate aromas, reminiscent of classic Riesling scents, from lime to balsamic notes and a hint of lemongrass. In the mouth, however, it conquers with its freshness and minerality. These characteristics make it ideal to accompany both fish and meat dishes, such as chicken and pork. Also excellent as an aperitif or to accompany fresh cheeses.
