Imbottigliato: Tenute Piccini Spa nelle proprie cantine di Montalcino (SI)
One cannot think of Tuscan wine without letting one's imagination fly over the hills around Siena. And in particular on the magical hill of Montalcino, where the world's best-known and best-loved Tuscan wines come from. A fine example is this Brunello di Montalcino DOCG proposed by Piccini. A wine that has won awards from the most severe international critics and is also appreciated by consumers, for its perfect location and typicality. Pure Sangiovese, as prescribed by the strict production regulations, the vineyards are rooted in soils rich in limestone and clay. We are about 350 metres above sea level, in a position that benefits from the sea breezes that arrive from the Maremma. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks and lasts about 15-20 days. The most important stage, however, is the next one. The charm of Brunello di Montalcino, in fact, derives from the maturation period, during which the newly fermented wine matures and slowly absorbs the aromas and scents of the wood of the barrels. In this case, maturation lasts for about 3 years: 20 months in oak casks, 4 months in barriques and 6 months in bottles. It is then marketed no earlier than 5 years after the harvest. Red in colour tending towards garnet, this Brunello di Montalcino reveals itself to be a wine of great structure, round, with complex notes of liquorice and cherry. In the mouth, it is full, spicy and elegant, with soft tannins and a lingering finish.
They rightly call themselves 'The Italian wine family'. After all, what is now a huge enterprise that revolves around the work of 7 wineries, in Tuscany but not only, and that is able to put millions of bottles of wine on the market every year, originates from a single small plot of land in Poggibonsi. It was purchased in 1882 by Angiolo Piccini who founded his own company with his wife, Maria Teresa Totti. From that small plot, 7 hectares in all, the first Chianti straw flasks were produced. The rest is history, work and commitment. Today, Mario Piccini, the fourth generation of the family, runs the company. With him are his sisters Martina and Elisa and his children Ginevra, Benedetta and Michelangelo, all personally involved in the company's activities. Five of the family's seven estates are cultivated according to organic farming principles.
