The Marina Cvetić Chardonnay is a rather extraordinary expression that shows the spice, vanilla essence and pastry aromas of carefully oaked Chardonnay, along with the tonic brightness and freshness of the grape's primary aromas. The wine straddles these expansive worlds of Chardonnay on its steady feet, deftly touching both ends of the style spectrum. It does so successfully and respectfully, which is ultimately this wine's winning card. There are light touches of salty mineral and dried mint on the close, serving up a delightful pairing for pheasant braised in white wine, juniper berries, bay leaf and clove. The wine is fermented in barrique, and it ages in oak for 12 months. Some 19,000 bottles were released.
Impressive and pronounced notes here of lemon curd, spices, jasmine, guava peel, vanilla and cloves. Very flavorful and oily on the palate, where the fleshy tropical fruit creates a real sense of texture. Linear acid drives this long. Phenolic. Drink now.
A rounded nose of citrus cream, melon and pineapple juice carries the mildly concentrated nose. The palate carries brûléed citrus and melon flavors, with mild acidity backing it up. Toasted almond marks the close. ALEXANDER PEARTREE
Masciarelli's Chardonnay Marina Cvetic is one of the most iconic wines of Abruzzo. A white that almost seems like a red, for its body and intensity. Made from carefully selected, harvested grapes, it is fermented in first-stage barriques, acquiring exceptional complexity. After vinification, there are another 18 months on the lees, again in wood, and no less than 10 months of ageing in the bottle. In the glass it reveals an intense golden yellow colour. On the nose yellow flowers and tropical fruit, toasted and hazelnut notes. In the mouth it is complex, rich, enveloping and incredibly long. Undoubtedly an extremely refined and important wine. A glass that should be approached with respect, looking for the right pairing.
Gianni Masciarelli, the unforgettable symbol of Abruzzo, founded his company in 1978. As in a beautiful fairy tale, at the end of the 80s, Gianni met Marina Cvetic with whom he bonds, professionally and personally. From that fortunate relationship, some of the most appreciated wines of the region were born. Marina Cvetic, above all, but also Villa Gemma or the Gianni Masciarelli. And then, more recently, the wines of Castello di Semivicoli. A small universe of quality that today is managed directly by Marina, Gianni's widow. 320 hectares, spread over 14 different municipalities in the provinces of Chieti, Teramo, Pescara and L'Aquila. In spite of such important numbers, all the production of the Abruzzo company is high end. Iconic wines, masterfully produced from the region's typical grape varieties.
