Pratto di Cà dei Frati is a white wine that was created with the desire to innovate while respecting tradition. The winery is located in Sirmione, on the southern shore of Lake Garda, in an area renowned for the production of Lugana DOC. This area is characterised by calcareous-clayey soils, ideal for viticulture, and benefits from a microclimate mitigated by the waters of the lake. The combination of these factors gives the wines a marked minerality and freshness. It is no coincidence that the area has historically been linked to viticulture, with evidence dating back as far as the 18th century. A blend of three grape varieties, Pratto is made from Turbiana, native to the Lugana area, which brings freshness and a marked minerality to the wine, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc which together give the wine a distinctive aromatic bouquet, characterised by hints of tropical fruit and a lively acidity. The grapes are harvested late, obtaining a greater concentration of aromas and sugars. Vinification takes place in steel, followed by ageing, again in steel, on fine lees for 12 months. Finally, after bottling, the wine rests in the bottle for a further 2 months before being released. Straw yellow tending to golden, bright and clear, the nose reveals elegant hints of tropical fruit, such as lime, lychee and citron, accompanied by mineral notes that enhance its finesse and elegance. In the mouth it is rich and harmonious, with an initial pleasant sweetness followed by a distinct acidity and sapidity. Everything is in perfect balance. The fruity and mineral notes return in the finish, offering a long persistence.
Cà dei Frati is synonymous with quality wine production in the Lake Garda region. Since 1939 it has been a point of reference for all local producers, and a company capable of establishing its wines on many international markets, thanks also to the numerous prizes and important awards it has won. Its name recalls the ancient link with the town of Sirmione. In fact, the entire Lugana area on the Brescia side was once known as ‘luogo dei fratti’ (place of the friars) because it belonged to the bishop's curia. And a document from 1782 testifies that wine was already being produced here at that time. The Dal Cero family is the beating heart of this historic company and has played a decisive role in the birth of the DOC and the international success of Lugana. On the shores of Lake Garda, tradition and innovation are harmoniously intertwined.
