    • Location Tuscany
    • Grapes 60 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 40 % Merlot
    • Sensations COLOUR: Ruby red. BOUQUET: Persistent with floral scents. FLAVOUR: Excellent roundness, gentleness and sweetness, with an organoleptic thickness without sharp edges. Excellent structure with great balance and persistence
    • Vinification Sorting in the field during the hand-harvesting of the bunches and subsequent selection on arrival of the grapes in the cellar, of the bunches and berries, using a sorting table. Gentle pressing and destemming of the bunches to avoid pressure on the berries and excessive release of tannin. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature maintained at around 26-28°C, without the addition of any external yeasts. Maceration in this vintage was about 13-15 days for the Merlot grapes and 15-18 days for the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, with frequent pumping-over and délestage to obtain more balanced musts, favour the aromatic extraction and make the tannins more docile.

      "Guidalberto" Toscana IGT 2022
    • Known to be the "younger brother" of the celebrated Sassicaia, Tenuta San Guido's Guidalberto has the merit of being much more accessible than its noble relative. In economic terms, first and foremost, but also in terms of drinkability. What it certainly does not lack, however, is quality. Guidalberto, interestingly enough, takes its name from an ancestor of Nicolò della Gherardesca, who for years led the estate. It is produced with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes, in pure Bordeaux style. Varieties of excellent quality that mature slowly thanks to a unique climate and exceptional soil, rich in marl, limestone and clay. We are at an altitude of between 100 and 300 metres above sea level, which, incidentally, is only a few kilometres from the perimeter of the Estate. Maturation takes place in French and American barriques for 15 months, until a brilliant ruby red colour is obtained. The nose is appreciated above all for the fullness of the fruit, with notes of coffee and hints of Mediterranean scrub. In the mouth, on the other hand, one is surprised by the fine tannic power of this wine, not "rude" but decisive and persistent. If the Sassicaia requires a special occasion, the Guidalberto is the Tuscan that you uncork without hesitation every time the grill crackles and the "fat" abounds.

One cannot think of the village of Bolgheri without referring to the work of Mario Incisa della Rocchetta and the legendary Tenuta San Guido. Before him, in fact, even on the coast not far from Livorno, the grapes cultivated were those typical of the region, with Sangiovese above all. Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, however, had an intuition and was the first to produce a Bordeaux wine, therefore based on Cabernet, on Italian soil. He was convinced, and with hindsight we can say he was right, that the Bolgheri area bore a clear resemblance to the Graves area. And so it was that back in 1968 Sassicaia was born. And it was an immediate success. The rest is history.
