Light copper-pink color and lovely aromas and flavors of red peaches and maple syrup and just enough bubbles to keep it light and lively. Despite the syrupy note it remains essentially dry. Something a bit different here, and delicious. Enjoy now.
Faìve, with the accent on the "i", is a Brut and Organic rosé sparkling wine from Nino Franco's historic winery. For once the classic variety of the territory, the Glera grape, of course, makes way for two international varieties that lend themselves to creating a fresh, pink base wine, from which a pleasant Charmat sparkling wine is made. But let's proceed in order. The basic blend is the most classic of the classics. 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Were it not for the fact that the grapes grow on the hills of Valdobbiadene, one might think we were in Bordeaux and that the next step would be to mature the wine in barriques. On the contrary, in this case the rosé obtained is placed in an autoclave where it undergoes the so-called "presa di spuma", transforming itself into a Brut that is pleasantly fruity and decidedly unconventional, at least for this corner of the Veneto. Intense pink and luminous, the Faìve nose reveals typical scents of small red fruits, with mineral and floral notes. In the mouth it is pleasantly fresh and dry, delicately tannic and effervescent. A sparkling wine with a pleasant persistence, it can easily accompany dishes with an intense flavour such as salami and cheese. Exceptional with aubergine parmigiana and vitello tonnato.
In 2019, Nino Franco celebrated its "first" 100 years. In fact, the date of birth of the historic cellars in Valdobbiadene is 1919. In the beginning it was Nino's father, Antonio, who believed in the importance of making a quality product. And when control of the family business passed to his son, the path was already marked out. The definitive turning point, however, came with the third generation, that of Primo who, first with his father Nino, and then on his own, succeeded in giving the winery the inevitable modern approach. In the early nineties, he took over a vineyard where he experimented with new planting techniques and the use of old clones. In the meantime, he continued his close collaboration with local winegrowers to develop his idea of enhancing the value of Glera. Today, his wife Annalisa and his daughter Silvia support him in this difficult work, supporting her father in all production, strategic and commercial decisions. From generation to generation, from father to son, the milestone of the first century was reached all too soon. And good quality bubbles, we are sure, will continue to be the protagonists of the Franco winery for the next 100 years.
