Bottled by Azienda Agricola MUZIC di Muzic Giovanni in its own cellars in San Floriano del Collio - Italy
This wine comes from a small portion of vineyards that the Muzic family owns in the Friuli Isonzo denomination. We are in the municipality of Gorizia, in the locality of Mainizza. 100 % Merlot, the grapes are harvested by hand in the first ten days of October. Quickly brought to the cellar, they undergo a maceration of about seven days, during which they are pumped over the cap three times a day to favour the complete extraction of colour. Then, after racking, the wine is aged for a minimum of 12 months in oak barrels of various capacities. Ruby red, the nose reveals a very intense and persistent bouquet reminiscent of raspberry, blueberry and blackberry. In the mouth it is pleasantly dry, but soft and full-bodied. A wine that recalls meat, especially red meat, cooked slowly. Also excellent with poultry and semi-mature cheeses.
At a crossroads between the road that climbs from Gorizia to the summit of San Floriano del Collio and the one that descends towards Preval, stands the Muzic estate, owned by Ivan and Orieta and their children Elija and Fabijan. A family-run business founded in 1963, today it can count on about 24 hectares of vineyards, 90% of which are cultivated with white grape varieties. An annual production of around 110 thousand bottles, produced mainly from the main indigenous grape varieties such as Ribolla Gialla, Tocai friulano, Malvasia Istriana and Picolit, but also with the great international varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay. The Muzic winery is ideally divided into two parts. The historic one, restored in the early 2000s, dates back to the 16th century and is one of the oldest in San Floriano. Miraculously escaped the devastation of the world wars, it has exposed stone walls and vaulted ceilings. Here are the wooden barrels in which the red wines rest and mature. Harmoniously connected to this is the modern, technologically advanced cellar, equipped with thermo-controlled stainless steel tanks.
