Alta Langa is a magical land, where the hills seem to dance with the sky. This is where Gancia's Alta Langa DOCG Rosé comes from, a wine that embodies the essence of a territory rich in history and tradition. Alta Langa extends over the provinces of Asti, Alessandria and Cuneo, on hills that are over 250 metres above sea level. Here, marly and clayey-calcareous soils create an ideal environment for the cultivation of fine grape varieties such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and Alta Langa DOCG is the first Piedmontese denomination exclusively dedicated to the classic method. This Fratelli Gancia Rosé is mainly made from Pinot Noir grapes, a variety that gives the wine structure and complexity. Some of the grapes are crushed and left in contact with the skins to extract the desired colour, followed by a soft pressing. The resulting must is fermented partly in barriques and partly in temperature-controlled steel tanks. Next, the cuvée is blended and the tirage phase begins: the second fermentation in the bottle, with the addition of selected yeasts. Finally, the wine matures on the lees for at least 30 months in the company's historic 19th-century cellars, developing complexity and depth. In the glass, Alta Langa DOCG Rosé has a characteristic antique pink colour, enriched by delicate, more intense reflections. The perlage is fine and persistent, indicating a long maturation on the lees. The nose has a clean and harmonious bouquet, with hints of citrus and small red fruits, accompanied by notes of yeast and a light bread crust. In the mouth it is balanced, pleasantly savoury, complex and fresh, with a marked minerality that enhances its freshness. Ideal as an aperitif, it goes well with appetisers and finger food. It pairs well with fish-based dishes such as carpaccio and tartare, but also with white meat and fresh cheeses. Its versatility also makes it suitable to accompany more structured dishes, thanks to its complexity and marked minerality.
Since 1850, Cantine Gancia has been a symbol of excellence in the Italian wine scene, with a history that is intertwined with that of Italian sparkling wine. Founded by Carlo Gancia, a Piedmontese visionary, the company has been able to combine tradition and innovation, becoming a global benchmark for lovers of wine and quality aperitifs. After studying in Reims, France, Carlo Gancia returned to Italy with the ambitious goal of creating a sparkling wine that could compete with the best French champagnes. And so, in 1865, after years of experimentation, the first Italian Classic Method Sparkling Wine was born, made with Moscato grapes, a native variety of Piedmont. This wine, called Moscato Champagne, marked the beginning of a revolution in the world of Italian sparkling wine, laying the foundations for what would become one of the most innovative companies in the sector. But Gancia's innovation didn't stop there. Already at the end of the 19th century, the company launched the first Vermouth, a unique product of its kind, made - without the addition of caramel - based on an infusion of aromatic herbs on a Moscato base. This Vermouth, which won an award at the International Fair in Chicago in 1893, became a model for all subsequent producers, further consolidating Gancia's role as a pioneer in the sector. Today, Cantine Gancia is a global brand, present in over 70 countries with a range of products that includes Metodo Classico and Charmat sparkling wines, aperitifs, vermouth, bitters and gin. With a production capacity of over 40 million bottles a year and marvellous historic cellars, the company combines industrial production with artisan attention to detail, guaranteeing quality and authenticity at every stage of the process.
