Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG 2018
  • A fine Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOC signed by Marchesi Fumanelli. It is produced on the hills of Valpolicella Classica, in the province of Verona, from grapes grown in vineyards located in San Pietro in Cariano, about 300 metres above sea level. This is a vocated territory, characterised by calcareous-clayey soils, well drained and with excellent exposure to the sun. The climate here is mild, with cold winters and warm, breezy summers, and favours optimal ripening of the grapes. The Corvina, at 40%, brings structure and body to the wine, also giving it spicy and leathery notes. The Corvinone, also at 40%, contributes its aromatic intensity, enriching the bouquet with hints of dark fruit and undergrowth. Finally, the Rondinella, at 20%, gives the wine softness and balance, smoothing out the tannic component and giving it a pleasant freshness. The grapes, harvested by hand at the end of September or beginning of October, are carefully selected and left to dry in the drying loft for about 120 days. During this period, they lose about 35/40% of their weight, concentrating sugars and aromas. Fermentation in temperature-controlled steel vats follows, with prolonged maceration to extract colour and aromas. The wine then matures in French oak tonneaux for 30 months, during which it develops elegance and complexity. Further bottle ageing for 8 months completes the maturation process, allowing the Amarone to best express its unique characteristics. Intense ruby red in colour, with garnet highlights, the nose reveals a broad and elegant bouquet, where intense notes of ripe fruit, such as black cherry, plum and cherries under spirits, combine with hints of undergrowth, sweet spices, cocoa and vanilla. Then nuances of leather and tobacco, which give the wine a decisive and fascinating character. In the mouth, it conquers with its robust and balanced structure. The tannins, although present, are well integrated and give the sip a pleasant astringency. The alcohol component, supported by a lively acidity, gives a long and persistent finish, re-proposing the fruity, spicy and toasted notes perceived on the nose. A meditation wine, it is ideal to round off an important meal or to accompany special moments. On the table, it requires gastronomic pairings of the same level. Try it with main courses of red meat, such as roasts, braised meats and game.

Marchesi Fumanelli is located in the heart of Valpolicella Classica, where history is intertwined with an enchanting landscape. A winery that has been carrying on the region's winemaking tradition with passion and dedication since 1470. The winery's vineyards are located in the historic area of the appellation. An area protected by the mountains and whose climate is mitigated by the presence of Lake Garda. A particularly favourable area for the cultivation of vines. The Squarano Estate, the historical seat of the company, holds centuries of history. Within its ancient walls are inscriptions and archaeological finds that bear witness to a glorious past. The villa, surrounded by cypress and cherry trees, also houses the ancient tufa barriques dating back to the 15th century, where the wines rest and refine their character. Despite the deep respect for tradition, Marchesi Fumanelli also embraces the most modern technology in the cellar. Vinification is carried out using innovative methods, guaranteeing the highest quality and making the most of the unique characteristics of each grape.
