Also known as Zinfandel (in California), Primitivo is one of the most widespread grape varieties in Southern Italy. But it is in Apulia, and above all in the Manduria area, that it finds its natural habitat, the territory in which it expresses itself best. A warm and soft red wine, enveloping but never stodgy or intrusive: the notes are those of cherry, blackberry and plum, with sweet spices that intoxicate the sip (thanks also to a good alcohol content). The tannins are there and can be felt, but they are not at all intrusive. An intense but balanced wine, perfect to enjoy with a rich platter of cured meats and mature cheeses. Perhaps when the company is right and you can linger until late, between one glass and another.
