A sweetly passito wine, not overdone. This is how we could describe this interesting product offered by Pellegrino. The result of a vinification of zibibbo grapes left to dry under the generous sun of August. The harvest, necessarily by hand, is carried out in the first days of September, when the grapes have reached perfect ripeness and the right concentration. In the winery the pressing is soft and, immediately after the start of fermentation, dried grapes are added, giving the wine complexity and richness of taste, without precluding its freshness. At the end of the vinification process, the wine is left to refine in steel tanks, at controlled temperature, for a period of at least 10 months. The result is a wine characterized by a beautifully intense yellow amber color On the nose it is dominated by sweeter scents of apricot, candied fruit and dried fig. on the palate, finally, you discover a pleasantly smooth wine, with a hint of honey and the same pleasant notes of dried apricot, dried fig and cooked pear. A real treat for the palate. A cuddle for every sweet tooth.
It is certainly not an exaggeration to say that Carlo Pellegrino of Marsala belongs to that small group of Sicilian companies that have made the history of viticulture on the island. And at Pellegrino people are so proud of this achievement that they want to pay homage to the fact that the winery boasts over 140 years of history. Its year of foundation, in fact, is 1880. What makes this long journey truly unique, however, is that the ownership has never changed since then. On the other hand, the company's products have or have evolved a great deal. If in the past, Pellegrino was only known for the production of Marsala, nowadays in addition to the traditional fortified wines it added a range of interesting white and red wines and even passito wines, produced with grapes coming from the winery's estate in Pantelleria. Tradition (long) and innovation (a lot) are today the ingredients of its success that translates into a really wide range of products, sold in Italy and worldwide and characterized by an excellent quality-price ratio.
