Hints of blackcurrant and cherry in this robust red meet with blood, tobacco and wild herb notes that add complexity. Fresh and juicy, with wellintegrated tannins and a lingering finish. Recommended from 2024 to 2040. Bruce Sanderson

      Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2017
    • A very traditional Brunello di Montalcino, the one offered at Poggio San Polo owned by the Allegrini winery. A typical and decidedly recognisable Sangiovese. A wine that is already good now but that has the makings of a wine that can age much longer in the cellar, developing those notes of evolution that the most expert tasters like so much. Its vinification takes place in cement vats followed by a long period of maturation in wood. At least 2 years in large French oak tonneaux. The result is a wine with an intense ruby red colour with garnet hues that on the nose reveals all the typical aromas of violets and small red fruits that we would expect from a good Brunello di Montalcino. Hints of underbrush, wood, vanilla and subtle notes of coffee are also discernible. In the mouth it is intense, persistent and full-bodied, with a long, pleasantly tannic finish.

It is considered one of the flagship producers of Valpolicella Classica and has always been recognised as one of the most important and significant Italian wineries. Owned by the Allegrini family since the 16th century, today it can count on over one hundred hectares of vineyards in the historic areas of the denomination. Attentive to innovation and respect for the environment, they aim to achieve full sustainability and organic certification. In the cellar, over the years, there have been many innovations and improvements, starting with the use of barriques to reduce the ageing period so as not to distort the varietal imprint of the grapes.
