Pignoletto is one of the most popular white wines of Emilia Romagna. Present in these lands since ancient times, it is even mentioned by Pliny the Elder in one of his texts dating back to the first century AD. Its appearance in the Bolognese area, however, is only documented with certainty from the mid-16th century. Traditionally, Pignoletto was grown clinging to a maple or elm tree.
