Primitivo 17 surprised us: when we first tasted it we expected the complex drinking of the local reds. Instead, we found an extraordinary wine, a set of fine emotions, that are powerful but not invasive. A great red wine that won 3 glasses from Gambero Rosso with the 2014 vintage.
Filippo Cassano's Primitivo 17 is an elegant interpretation of one of the most beautiful territories in southern Italy, and has always received excellent ratings in all the major guides. Only steel, a style marked by power and elegance, combined with a surprising ease and pleasantness of drinking. Filippo carries on a long family tradition. The farm is located in a fully restored farmhouse, in the Marchesana, a district of Gioia del Colle, where already in 1860 it was possible to observe the characteristic expanses of Primitivo saplings. There are 25 hectares of vineyards, 15 of which are planted with Primitivo. For the rest, the varieties are aleatico, aglianico, fiano minutolo, falanghina and moscato. In addition, Filippo has selected another 15 hectares of old vines (40-60 years old, rented), with very low yields of about 500 g per plant. The name Polvanera is inspired by the dark colour of the soil in the area. The winery is dug into the rock of the Murgia Carsica, where the Primitivo grape has found its natural habitat for centuries. In 2003, with Polvanera, Filippo started an ambitious project for the enhancement of Primitivo and other native grape varieties.
